His works have a mysterious quality… a magical touch that makes them stand apart from the works of other contemporary artists. Everything that he paints has a deep meaning and message in it. ‘A Budding Flower Crushed’
The said painting is about many such gruesome cases of rape, which takes place all around every now and then.
One of which is infamous ‘Nirbhaya Gang Rape’. In which case the victim was beaten, gang raped and tortured in a private bus.
The victim was assulted with an iron rod. Who was not just sexually violated, her body was mutilated beyond human imagination.
Her intestines were pulled out, and private parts mutilated. She later died of multiple organ failure and internal bleeding.

My painting “If wishes were horses, beggars would ride” and painting with GOUACHE medium

At times you have glass full of milk in your hands, but just can’t take it to your lips and drink it. The distance becomes so big, that it cannot be covered. There are compulsions of life. We can’t have everything we wish for.

“If wishes were horses, beggars would ride” is an English language proverb and nursery rhyme, originating in the 16th century, which suggests that if wishing could make things happen, then even the most destitute people would have everything they wanted.

If you could achieve your aims simply by wishing for them, life would be very easy.

The title has been translated symbolically into visual through the thirst (desire) of large powerful bird of prey, the eagle. And a drop of water (fulfillment), which could quench its thirst seems to be unreachable due to barbed wire fence between them.

Gouache (g-wash) – (from the Italian aguazzo) is my medium for the painting.

The paint is rendered heavy and opaque by the addition of a white pigment (chalk, Chinese white, etc.) in a gum Arabic mixture. This results in a stronger color than ordinary watercolor. Which is why my gouache paintings looks so bright and colorful. The finished gouache surface looks like oil or acrylic, often with a three dimensional thickness that adds character to the image. Since good quality gouache paint is very opaque, it has a lot of similarity to oil or acrylic in its application. It is basically an opaque water colour. You can use it with pale washes like water colour or quite thick like oils. It dries very quickly, an advantage over oils, but can be rewetted and remains active, unlike acrylic. Also your palette colours are not wasted, next time you paint you can re-activate them. With gouache it is possible to over paint already dry paint with lighter or darker colours without activating the colour underneath, although this has to be done carefully. As I was a graphic designer I got to use it very early on. It’s all been replaced by computers now of course. I have used water colours, acrylics and oils but find gouache suits what I want to do, and it helps in painting finer details.

Some things you can do with gouache are worth mentioning. The ability to paint over something you are not happy with, indeed you can remove the complete picture and start again. Because the paint is thick and opaque you can apply it with things like sponges when painting trees, palette knives, edges of cardboard, in fact you can try anything and see what effect you can achieve.

The most complicated and intriguing part of this painting has been fine detailing of the eagle, large array of colours in its wings, finer structure of the feathers and look of despair in the eyes of the eagle due to its inability to reach drop of water.

We keep dreaming all our lives. Always feel about the things others possess, that they are better. But this is never ending. It is infinite. So there are worlds and beauty beyond we can see.

It’s been two months to the lockdown. While this global emergency has beseeched us to pause, slow down, and reflect. People have become restless. Many finding it difficult to kill time. But the life dorsnt stop, it kerps blooming.

“wisdom”, “intelligence”, or “understanding”. It is described in Buddhist commentaries as the understanding of the true nature of phenomena.

According to Buddism, Buddha is the one who has attained total knowledge. And it’s a process. Not all monks are Buddha. Bodhisattvas are many stages of gaining complete knowledge.

MELTING SKY

Knife Painting

Texture White and Gouache on Board

We develop cities, roads, bridges and infrastructure without giving thought to the law of nature. To pave way to concrete jungle we keep uprooting trees and mountains and shake the balance of the eco-system. Earth’s most important element, open soil, maintains actions-reactions taking deep within the crust of earth. Our unmindful over exploitation, pollution, scattering of junk and debris tampers with this important element. A day will arrive when all this will explode in our face in the form of natural calamities.

‘MELTING SKY’ captures the anguish of Mother Nature as she faces the disregard of humans who in the name of modernization create havoc on earth. It depicts the exploding sky, shattered and pouring down with Mother Earth writhing in pain and despair.

This paintings translates change of heart of Prince Siddharth and his becoming Buddha (attaining wisdom).

‘Shades of Life‘

Life is so similar to the traffic blinks; red for the dead ends and helplessness , yellow the ray of hope that is like a dream and the green where life got the desired hikes.

The world is filled with colours galore, each day is a colourful festivity. But it is difficult too and has struggles also.

It requires to get to know it; a place where one can feel a sojourner in its midst. But it is too a place that tolerates your presence, and, as long as you remain respectful, it will allow you to saunter and relish the attributes that it has to offer, undisturbed and secure.

The paintings depicts, that to me, is fair enough; I don’t ask for more. I have no wish to disturb its existence, or indeed, undermine any aspect of its life.

SUN DANCERS

India is a country of villages and where farming have been a major occupation for lively hood for a major chunk of population for ages. For this they have to depend on natural resources. These people have always prayed and performed puja, hawan etc to gods and goddess of these resources in order to make them happy and provide it in abundance.

In this painting of mine, a couple is shown happily dancing after emergence of sun after a long gap. It’s an abstract done with knife. Edible oil has been added with gouache paint in layers to creat the feeling of depth in the background.

Trapped in social web and caught with evils, she is still a mother. She creates new lives.

Wisdom is understanding, discernment, insight, or cognitive acuity. In our day to day life good and bad keeps coming our way. It is for us to differentiate between them. Absorb the ‘Good’ and let the ‘Bad’ pass by.
